The Top 5 Products for a Day at the Beach with Word of Rachel

Summer is on the way in. And that means a change in, well, just about everything! Clothing goes from thick and snuggly to light and airy. We swap our evenings from indoor activities to pub beer gardens and spend our days gazing out at the sun soaked world. We book holidays and enviously glare at the endless pictures our Facebook and Instagram friends snap. And most importantly, we hit the beach!

But what do we need when we hit the beach? We all have a checklist. We usually bring a towel, an on point bikini or swimsuit, our sunglasses, and sun protection. But with those beach bags being so big, we’re often tempted to fill them. What with? Well, that’s where I come in.

Long days spent exposed in the sun call for some pretty essential products. You may be thinking of makeup, but which products protect you from sun damage? You might think of sun protection, but will it stand long exposure, water, and sweat? What about after sun? Will after sun work on the body and the face? It’s a lot more complicated than you’d think…

So, here are the products I can’t be without on the beach, and you shouldn’t be either!

Water

Not a beauty product as such, but if you’re planning on spending a whole day in the scorching heat and sun you need to be hydrated! Plastic bottles from the supermarket will do, but the environmentally conscious among us may want to opt for a refillable bottle. Drink up!

Sun Protection

I can almost hear the ‘yeah, we know’ echoing across the lands atop a bed of eye rolls! But sun protection isn’t as simple as picking up the cheapest bottle and hoping for the best. Here are a few things that should be considered when you pick up your chosen bottle of SPF:

  • They are not all the same. The cheapest is cheap for a reason. Get a trusted brand, such as Garnier or Nivea. Once you choose a brand, look at the products on offer. There are a lot of things to consider, such as consistency and even colour. A transparent one, such as this Garnier example won’t leave white marks but will not spread as easily. This Nivea one will spread more easily, but may not actually aid tanning if you need a higher SPF.
  • Burn easily? Then do not be swayed by tanning oils with SPF. Or be tempted to opt for a lower SPF than you need. If you struggle to tan, there are always options in a bottle. Do not risk the devastating effects of UV radiation in the name of vanity! If you’re pale skinned and burn easily, go for SPF 30or even 50. Last summer I made the mistake of thinking I could pass on SPF 20. Sunburn is painful…

Avoid unflattering sunburn by investing in the correct SPF!

  • Some products do work better than others, such as this one. If you’re a little forgetful when it comes to reapplying, this might be an option for you.
  • Remember to reapply! Sweating, swimming and time will wear away that protection. Even sun protectants that promise to last all day should be re-applied to stay safe.

My personal favourite brand, year on year are Garnier and Nivea. They’re affordable, and they work. My friend also introduced me to this fantastic all day facial sunscreen which although a little expensive makes a perfect base for makeup.

Lip Balm

Sun, sea and sand may sound ideal but it is drying as hell! Your lips are the only part of your body that can’t make their own moisture. So make sure you have a handy lip product to go. Several sun care brands have lip products with SPF packed in for example, this one or this one. A handy tin of Vaseline never goes amiss for a cheap and effective option, but remember that this will melt if left in a hot bag all day!

Sunglasses

More than a fashion accessory, sunglasses are essential protection for the eyes! Avoid feeling like you can’t drag your eyes open when the sun is blazing on that pale coloured sand and make sure you have them on! It’s easy to get some sunnies that look amazing too! Try Topshop sunglasses, New Look sunglasses, accessorise sunglasses, or if budget isn’t a problem for you, Quay Australia has the best selection of fashionable sunnies.

Foundation with SPF

Needing to keep skin protected doesn’t mean you need to skimp on the beauty! Use a base product with SPF and reapply throughout the day, as you would SPF. Remember, more brands than ever are bringing out base products with higher SPF content. Products for daily use will not cover this. Don’t want to apply heavy foundation for a beach day? Try a sun protection product specifically designed for the face, such as this one previously mentioned.

So there you have it; the top 5 things that you need for a day at the beach. Remember, you can have all of the accessories in the world, but nothing looks good with sunburn! Always protect yourself!

5 Make up Must Haves with Hey There Robyn

Hey there, I am Robyn from heythererobyn.com, a 19 year old media student from Glasgow with a Starbucks addiction. Over on heythererobyn.com I talk all things beauty, fashion and lifestyle as well as some blog tips and tricks.
For this post I am going to share with you my 5 makeup must haves.

BEAUTY BLENDER

Starting with my recent obsession the beauty blender. I have the Real Techniques Beauty Blender and as you can see from the photo above it is very well loved (okay, it’s dirty, I’m sorry). My life has been changed by this simple little sponge.

When using this product I dampen it a little before placing some of my foundation on the back of my hand, and using the sponge I begin to press the foundation all over my face, giving the perfect airbrush coverage with no brush lines. For foundation I switch between both the flat end of the sponge and the small pointed end, using the bigger area for cheeks, chin and forehead and the smaller side for my eyes and nose area.

The smaller end of the sponge can also be used to blend concealer, highlight and contour without leaving brush lines.

The only flaw of this product for me is the sponge can sometimes absorb the product and you have to use more product with it than you would with a brush.

SETTING SPRAY

Words cannot explain how much I adore Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray, I have tried De-Slick spray, but this one works a lot better for my combination skin.

Before I started using this product my makeup wouldn’t last three hours before something started to smudge, however, since I began adding this little spray to the end of my beauty regime my make up is lasting all day and all night with only lipstick needing to be reapplied.

Applying it in a ‘T’ formation 10” from my face it keeps my makeup in place through any weather, cold and dry, warm and sweaty, it is a must have for anyone wanting their makeup to last longer.

The only flaw with this product is that it can leave your face looking dewy, if you aren't a fan of the dewy look then you can however, apply a setting powder afterwards just to give a matte finish.

HOOLA

I am not one for the overly contoured and highlighted face, I have no idea how to do it and it just seems like a whole lot of hassle for an everyday look for me, however I have found the perfect product for making my cheekbones pop. Benefit’s Hoola.

The matte bronzer can be used under your cheekbones and around your face to give the allusion of sharper bone structure. I like to use it in a backwards “3” motion starting at my forehead sweeping it down by my eyebrows, bringing it in towards my lips, but not too far and then back out and down around my jawline. After I have done that I may build up the product to get the precise look I am going for.

This product lasts forever! Even with using it around 3-6 times a week I have had the same Hoola for 8 months and I am still using it to this day.

A NUDE LIP

A necessity in every girls’ makeup collection is the perfect nude lip. For me that is MAC’s Mocha. A beautiful brown satin nude this lipstick is perfect for a tanned or olive skin tone. While everyone was loving Velvet Teddy I found the famous lipstick too be a tad too light for my skin tone, but Mocha is just a few shades darker and suits me perfectly.

A nude lipstick is perfect for any occasion may it be a ‘no makeup’ makeup look, or a toned down lip with dramatic eyes or just an everyday look, a nude lipstick is a must and MAC do some pretty incredible ones.

UNDER EYE CONCEALER

As a night owl under eye concealers are a must have, there is nothing worse than your makeup looking amazing, but you have massive bags under your eyes that your foundation couldn’t cover!

I have two favourite under eye concealers; Benefit Boi-ing and Sleek Correct and Concealer. Both products have brightening properties in them giving the illusion that you are a lot more awake and lively than you may actually be, obviously the perfect product for us bloggers who like to write our posts late at night.

The Sleek palette includes a light concealer, darker concealer and a powder. I don't personally use the powder, but I have repurchased this product quite a few times and I adore how smooth the application is and for a cheaper product the coverage is phenomenal.

Boi-ing is a product on the higher price end of the spectrum, but just like the sleek palette the coverage is smooth, sleek and full.

My Autumn Look with Sarah Emery

Hello everyone! I am Sarah and my blog is Sarah Emery. My blog is very much still a work in progress but I mainly blog about lifestyle and beauty.

This post is about my general look for autumn. Autumn is easily my favourite season, it has all the good things; my birthday, Halloween and bonfire night.

On my face I wear Seventeen's 3 in 1 highlighter before I put foundation on. It brightens up my face a little. Foundation (Fashionista), bronzer (Makeup Revolution) on my cheeks and a little bit of highlight (Makeup Revolution). I've put highlighter on my eyelids and put on mascara (Maybelline). Then I put on a dark purple lipstick (Rimmel). Usually it varies between purple and red but today it's purple. This look is mainly about the lip.

I always have a tough time deciding whether I want my hair in waves/loose curls or straight. Recently I've gone for straight more often because it shows off how long my hair is getting. Daft I know. But that is all I do to my hair. Often I'll clip my fringe back because it's such a pain, despite the fact that it's growing out and has been for many months.
Today I am wearing a high neck long sleeved ribbed top (Primark) paired with a pair of high waisted jeans (H&M). I accessorise it with jewellery, an amethyst necklace, watch and a handful of rings. I have discovered such a love for high neck tops so that's the first thing I look for when I'm in Primark. They always fit perfectly too.
When I venture outdoors I wear a knitted hat (Primark) and a scarf (New Look). The hat is a very recent purchase, I never used to wear a hat because my hair was so short and it didn't suit, so I'm very glad that I can wear them now. The scarf I have I got a year ago and I love it so much. It is absolutely massive and it is reversible.

It's a simple look but I like it. For more details see over on my blog.

Fall makeup update with Samples Queen

Hi my name is Eli and I blog about beauty and lifestyle over at Samples Queen. I try and test tons of new beauty products every month, so you don't have to. Check out my latest beauty reviews, lifestyle bits and travel adventures.

Fashion and beauty trends are great source of inspiration but when it comes to real life, well most of them are quite impractical. Flipping through fashion magazines I could not help myself but notice the overwhelming and prominent feature of burgundy and deep red colors. Tips on how to incorporate the new shades of color vary from adding something small like a burgundy lip, or going for things that are a bit more extreme like head to toe fashion look. Willing to try something new and “appear” more fashion forward I started my quest for something burgundy. On my recent trip to the drugstore I picked up a few season appropriate lipsticks and eye shadows that I thought will help me transition into the new fashion season.

Because of the shade of color, burgundy lips are more of a bold statement, so the rule of makeup dictate to pair bold lips with more settle eye looks. Another alternative is going for simple eyeliner, which if you are one of those cat eye flick master (I’m definitely not!) got for it. For my version of autumnal look I went for metallic gold eye shadow, hint of bronzer and of course burgundy lips. One of my favorite long lasting and super pigmented eye shadow ranges LOreal Color Riche. Gold Mania shade adds that bit of extra sparkle that makes eyes stand out in a very settle kind of way. It works well with any eye color and pairs very well with any red or darker tone lipstick. For my burgundy lipstick of choice I went for Maybelline Creamy Matte in Divine Wine. This color is definitely more on the burgundy/plum side but I found looks universally beautiful on both pale and deeper tone complexions. The formula is not drying and once it lasts considerable amount of time. On the lips it at first felt very moisturizing and creamy but after about 5 minutes it the color sets. Throughout the day there were no smears but I did need to reapply which I find quite normal for bold color lipsticks.

There you have it beauties a quick and easy fall makeup update that does not cost a fortune. Personally I love burgundy shades and really believe that this color is universally flattering.

Spring Favourites with Saturday's Girl

Spring is such a beautiful time of year, I love seeing the seasons change and all the flowers and trees blossoming.  For a twenty-something fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger it means I can find new fashion and beauty items, while taking beautiful photographs on days out with my family and friends.

Saturday's Girl
Below I've shared with you all a few of my favourite things in Spring so far...

Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne
I have been obsessed with this scent for the past month or so, I usually pick out floral fragrances but I'm so in love with this.  It's such a fresh and invigorating scent with a top note of ambrette seeds, heart note of sea salt and base note of sage - it is a lovely woody scent which reminds me of the seaside.  I have the 30ml bottle so it is perfect in my handbag, I recently took it to a wedding and it was so nice to freshen up with such a beautiful, serene scent.

Trips to the Seaside
Talking of the seaside..!  When the weather starts to pick up and the days and nights get lighter I love going on unplanned road trips to gorgeous Scottish towns, cities and seasides.  Recently I spent my Sunday enjoying a drive up to Anstruther on such a gorgeous sunny day, spending time walking along the waterfront and looking at all the boats, houses and beautiful views.  Not to mention visit the famous Anstruther Fish Bar and enjoying fish and chips on a bench by the sea, the perfect Scottish seaside day out!

Hair Plaits
Hair plaits are my favourite thing at the moment to change up any hairdo.  If my hair isn't quite sitting how I'd like it to I tend to pull together a plait at the front of my hair and follow along the hairline until I reach my ear and tuck back with a few kirby grips.  I also love the style above when putting my hair into a pony tail or bun at the bottom of my head, plaits can completely dress up your look and look so pretty.

Spring Jackets
Pastel coloured coats and jackets look gorgeous, especially in Spring.  They dress up any outfit and works a treat when the weather can't make its mind up..!  There are so many beautiful colours, styles and textures available and I've included a couple of different styles above - aren't the colours gorgeous?!

I'd love to hear about your favourite picks for Spring!

My Top Skincare Tips with Zoe's Beauty Blog

Hi everyone! My name is Zoe and I am a blogger from the Highlands of Scotland. With the help of my little blog, my aim is to help and inform people on all things skin.
My inspiration is the amazing Caroline Hirons, who is the skincare Queen! I try to follow in her footsteps, helping as many people as I can get the best out of their skin.

I feature many skincare posts over on my own blog, that you can click here to visit (I'd love if you did that!), which I go into more detail in and really narrow down to specific concerns (e.g blackheads) and individual product reviews.

In this post however, I will be doing a brief (as possible) run down of my top skincare tips. This is advice/information that I learned that really made a difference to how I looked at skincare/my skin. They made a massive difference to me, personally and they are always the first things I tell people when they ask for advice on skincare. This is basic advice that I feel everyone should follow, no matter what your skin type is or how old you are or what budget you have to spend on your skin care. It will work for everyone!

Ditch the face wipes- and the foaming face wash!

A lot of you will know that "face wipes are bad" and that you shouldn't use them. But why? Well, they are full of alcohol for a start which isn't going to do your skin any favours, it will however make it red and angry. Plus, they really don't remove that much makeup, they kind of just smear it around your face. Nice.

As for foaming face wash.. A note on anything that "foams", try and avoid putting it on your face. Foam/lather is caused my an ingredient called Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), this breaks down/strips the skin of the natural protective layer on your skin (Acid Mantle) which is made up of sweat and oil. This layer keeps the skin anti-bacterial. By breaking down that layer, you leave your skin in a state called "alkaline". Which means you're basically inviting bacteria to have a little (or should I say big) party on the surface of your skin. Your skin will also naturally produce more oil to make up for the oil that has been stripped away. Excess oil + bacteria party = spots.

(Oh and also, never aim for "squeaky clean" Your face should not squeak.

If you ever get that "tight" feeling, you've done what I mentioned above, about the bacteria party? Yeah. Leave the squeaking to the mice and old doors.)

"So what should I use!?" I hear you say. Well, that will be my next tip...

Use a cleansing balm/oil - EVEN IF YOU ARE OILY.

No matter what your skin type, an oil/balm cleanser is a must. They hydrate and moisture the skin, without being heavy or greasy. They are also fantastic at removing makeup. It completely melts everything away, without stripping the skin. Your skin will be left 100% makeup free, soft and hydrated. Cleansing oils/balms are great for all skin types!

Although keep and eye out for and avoid mineral oil

Mineral oil is a very cheap ingredient that is used to bulk up product. It is claimed to be "moisturising" and all the rest, but really it is a disaster for the skin. It creates a layer over the skin that is difficult for the skin to absorb(It also blocks any other ingredients from penetrating into the skin). This will cause congestion, blocked pores etc. It also takes moisture from within the skin, dehydrating it from the inside out. Yikes. It is found in a lot of moisturisers, lip balms, cleansers. Just have a quick scan over the ingredients list before you make your purchase!

Acid toners are your new best friend!
Acid toners? They sound quite scary at first but I promise you, they aren't! In fact they are one of the best, most effective products I have ever used on my skin. I recommend everyone uses one in their daily routine.
An acid toner is basically a liquid exfoliant. They exfoliate the skin by using acids called AHAs. The most popular one being glycolic acid.
The acid melts away any dead skin cells and bacteria found on the surface of the skin, revealing new, fresh skin cells underneath. Your skin will glow after working an acid toner into your routine. They are also great for fading scars left behind from blemishes and reducing the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles. I talk far more in depth about acid toners on my blog, if you're interested in learning more about them!

Do not be afraid to use oil on your skin

Most people, especially if you have an oily skin type, are very hesitant to put moisture on their skin. Which is completely understandable. Why would you want to apply oil onto an already oily skin?! It is all about what kind of oil you use.
Plant oils are great for the skin and will actually help to balance an oily complexion. They are light and easily absorbed into the skin. Use a light, hydrating facial oil before bed and you will see a massive difference in your skin. All skin types can use oil, whether you're oily, dry, dehydrated... You just need to find one that works best for your own skin. And as always, avoid mineral oil! Click here to read my recommendations.

And last but not least, please remember... This is your face. The only one you will ever have. Please look after it!

Okay, so those are my top skincare tips! Like I said previously, I stand by this advice and offer it to anyone who asks me about skincare. I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if you found it helpful by leaving a comment below! Also, let me know if you have any skincare tips that you stand by.

Thank you so much to Scottish Bloggers for giving me the opportunity to guest post on their blog. I really appreciate it!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream with An Impatient Scottish Girl

Hello guys, my name is Lauren and i run the beauty blog An Impatient Scottish Girl. I was so excited when Scot Bloggers contacted me to ask if i would put together a little post for their readers. Like all other beauty bloggers out there i like to talk about beauty products including skincare, makeup, bath & shower products but i also like to discuss books, tv and recipes so you can find a variety of posts on my blog which you find interesting and can also help you out a little!

I decided to review the Charlotte Tilbury Magic cream for you today as I finally jumped on the bandwagon and bought myself a few goodies from her range, you can see my recent haul post here.

I am already in love with everything i have tried so far from this range and the magic cream is no different. It is super soft and smooths over my face without any problems at all. I do have oily skin and it works a treat for me but i think that all skin types could really benefit from this cream. There is so much goodness in this cream that it seems almost impossible for it not to work, i mean just look at this list:

Product Information

  • BioNymph Peptide Complex - This fights the ageing process: it stimulates collagen production and cell energy and fights free radicals, to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and smooth the skin.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate floods skin with moisture, re-plumping the skin. This makes the skin looked plumped up and gives a nice dewy finish.
  • A mix of rose hip oil, camellia oil and anti-oxidant vitamin E transforms a grey complexion into hydrated, mirror-shine skin, nourishing Vitamin A helps improves skin firmness and smoothness and energetic Vitamin C is able to promote collagen activity for more youthful skin.
  • SPF 15 which protects your skin from the ageing effects of the sun. This also includes Anti -UVA filter to protect your skin all year round.
  • Damask rose water and organic aloe vera stimulate skin regeneration, fighting the signs of ageing, naturally and gracefully.
  • Extracts of Frangipani, the symbol of eternity, form a soothing, purifying and hydrating comfort-blanket on the skin.

I have been using this every morning to give a nice dewy effect to the skin but i do also give my face a good old 5 minute massage when applying so it really stimulates the blood flow and lets those collagen boosting ingredients penetrate even further.

I know its probably not in everyone's price range, i am a student so i do understand that £70 for a 50ml of moisturiser is a bit ridiculous but i promise i have had no problems with this at all and it has really injected my skin with some extra love.

What do you think? Have you tried this cream before? Have you tried any of Charlotte Tilburys products? Do you have any recommendations for good moisturisers?

My Skincare Routine with Louise Robertson

Hi everyone! I'm Louise and i'm over at louisekaterobertson.blogspot.co.uk, I'd love it if you stopped by! I'm so happy to have been asked to write a guest post. Today I'll be sharing with you my daily skincare routine. It's probably not that exciting, but I hope you'll still enjoy it!

First of all I like to remove any makeup that might be on my face with a little cotton pad and my Garnier Micellar Water which I've been loving lately. It literally removes any tiny bit of makeup on your skin.

Once there's no makeup left, I like to wash my face with hot water using the Proactiv Solution Medicated Cleansing soap bar. This is probably the only soap I'll ever use on my face. It just makes my skin feel so clean and soft and just amazing.

Then I'll move on to my moisturisers. I use two (sometimes three) different moisturisers, which I don't know if that's good or bad for my skin, but it seems to be working pretty well since I suffer from pretty dry skin. So my main on that I use first is the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, it just makes my skin feel so soft. The other two moisturisers I use are from Garnier, they're the Ultra Hydrating Rich Cream and Illuminating Light Lotion, both are amazing and make my skin feel so much better.

Finally, I'll sometimes use the Simple Kind to Skin Illuminating Radiance Cream which I've been loving lately. It just makes my skin look a lot brighter and healthier.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what my usual skincare routine is. Do you use any of the products I do? Let me know!

Date Night Look with Sparkling In Stilettos

Hey dolls, I’m Megan from Sparkling In Stilettos and I have been giving this awesome opportunity to do a guest post for Scottish Bloggers.

If y'all haven't read my blog before I blog about fashion, beauty and anything else that pops into my head.

Outfit

Croptop-Newlook

Skirt – Matalan
Shoe- Carvela at Kurt Geiger

Make-up

I am genuinely in love with this foundation, it’s the better skin foundation by Maybelline. I apply it with a real techniques expert face brush. I also conceal anything that need concealed which in this case is my horrendous black bags.

Next up I contour my cheek bones to make it look like I actually have some and I am currently using the NYC MetropoliTAN bronzer.

When It comes to my make-up I either do a bold eye or a bold lip and for tonight I went with a bold eye. I used the Sleek Show Stoppers palette ( it limited edition not sure if you can still get it)

I applied the nude colour all over my eyelid using a flat shader brush.

On the outer part of my eye I used the bright pink and applied it using the same shader brush.

Using a flat brush I applied the mauve- brown along my socket line and blended it out.

And finally in the outer corner I used a soft dome brush and applied the dark brown and blended it out.

Obviously I finished the look with lancome hypnose mascara.

On my lips I used a pink Sephora Collection lipgloss.
